Warhammer 40K - The Tyranid Outcast by RanDize Warhammer 40K - The Tyranid Outcast by RanDize
The origin of Ymgarl is a mystery, the reason for its lost of psychic link to hive is also unknown. Makes me wonder what made the hive mind abandoned these creature. This illustration shows an internal war, an evolved Ymgarl with higher intelligence, establishing its psychic link and commanding genestealers to fight against the Hive Mind. The rest is your interpretation.

its not much different in any natural hive mind colonies either. someone loses it and they get eaten.
tho why I feel so sad for it, its a monster after all :C

Why is he an outcast?

They probably ate his sandwich at lunch. Thus creating an eternal vendetta against the hive.

I think the reason the Ymgarl Genestealers are always left behind
is because they are too unstable which could cause problems
if the hive fleet integrated them back in.
Ymgarl Genestealers are actually kinda sad because they are
constantly trying to rejoin the main hive but just get left behind
every time.

Ymgarl Broodlord that is a interesting idea, and with a feast as big as that I don't think they should worry about dormancy.
AngelFether Featured By Owner Oct 21, 2013
Crap. I would not want to pit any normal Tyranid army against a Genestealer army. That Trygon is as good as bonito.

Awesome picture. I like he theories on past Tyranid fleets having come before and left creatures behind.

Great picture. I'm not sure how often the Hive Mind actually 'abandons' its creatures. The Hive Fleet might have been destroyed. But, the Ymgarl Genestealers are the only Tyranid special creatures that do have a reason to be abandoned: They are a Failed experiment. The Ymgarl have horribly unstable genetics which causes their bodies to constantly change. They look like a new organism that merges Lictor DNA with a Genestealer, probably to try and make even More effective infiltrators. This obviously didn't work, so they were useless to the Hive Mind. There was no reason to take the Ymgarl or absorb them and their defective DNA through the Reclamation Pools. If this is the case, then the Hive Mind may have even tried to kill the Ymgarl....
HonourofMaccrage Featured By Owner Jul 14, 2013
Well the Ymgarls aren't the only Tyranid species to have already existed before M41. The Krakens on Fenris are massive sea creatures that are theorized to be old Tyranids from a forgotten age. Same with the Catachain Devils. But my take on the Ymgarls is that a hive fleet had once invaded with different genetic codings and such and withdrew from the galaxy, the Ymgarls were left behind.
BooButtz Featured By Owner Dec 16, 2014
Yeah, I think that's what the official lore says to. Hive fleets normally consume genestealers into their hive, so I wonder why they just kind of avoid the Ymgarls....besides as a reason to justify how the Ymgarls keep showing up n Tyranid battles in the lore  :P
HonourofMaccrage Featured By Owner Dec 16, 2014
Too disconnected from the hive mind?
Also there is one theory that suggests the Nids are on the run. So maybe they're tied into the that factor somehow.
BooButtz Featured By Owner Feb 3, 2015
Is that an official theory (that the nids are on the run), or just fan speculation, do you know? I can't imagine the Tyranids running from anything, except maybe from starvation and lack of food.

I have a theory that the Tyranids are not feeding, but actually at war with the other races. I think that warp storms caused a lot of damage to the Tyranids in their galaxy. So, the Tyranids are now trying to stop the warp storms by killing off all the people and races that cause them (eldar, humans, orc, etc.). If the Nids were really just hungry, then why don't they ever farm or grow food? They could leave some life around, let the lifeforms grow in numbers, eat a few of them, let the lifeforms grow again, etc. Instead the Nids not only kill All life, but they make it so life can Never grow again. It seems like they are trying to completely destroy all life for good, rather than just eat it.

Its an official theory in the lore. Its an imperial speculation of course.
And I see, that is an interesting theory.
EternalV01d Featured By Owner May 7, 2013
Hm just a thought here. The whole pointing at the enemy is not really a tyranid thing... they have after all a psychic bond so theres no need to point.+
That's more like a propaganda picture in some kinda imperial media when a commander points out the last of the enemies but it doesn't show tyranid essence at all

intelligent... tyranids? well, as the warmaster said:

It's nice to see that I am not the only one who has entertained the idea of Tyranid rebellions elements. The only one independent enough to do it would be the Stealer and Lictors. Ever heard of Zoats?

cool, and very interesting. I always imagined tyranids as very mysterious, especially the Ymargl. It's a very nice picture too.

Unbelievable. I am an avid reader of the books, and I've been consistently frustrated with artwork that does not convey the appropriate scale or the right spirit of the universe. This piece of work is impressive. Definitely my favorite so far. :)

individual thought if frowned appon. all must bend to the will of the hive mind or It is purged. At least that is my understanding? I like this very much, it shows how even the mighty hive mind has a glych in the system every now and then.

A very climatic scene, it's incredible how this can be emotive after all all this things are horrible monsters.
Espeon-Master-Espo Featured By Owner Apr 13, 2012
It is two reasons really.

It is their mental state and there unstable DNA.

It is worryed by the hives that if they brought it back in the unstablity would move into the hives over all.
OutofLuna Featured By Owner Apr 5, 2012
I had to read up on these Ymgarl Genestealers, and apparently the Hive Mind doesn't want to re-absorb them due to undesireable genetic traits.
